The Importance of Inspiration (Week 45)
The ways it can influence your life and help you create.
I know, I’m a couple of days late with my newsletter. Sorry about that. :) Time got away from me and I haven’t been feeling the best.
Inspiration isn’t just about ideas, places and things - it’s also about the people in our lives. They inspire us through their dreams, stories and encouragement, and through our desire to help and support them. For example, parents supporting their children, but that’s just one relationship in life where this springs to mind. There are so many more.
No man or woman is an island, after all, even when we’re introverts. Most of us have families and connections who are a significant part of our lives, and potentially our main reason for doing many of the things we do.
Some of us are natural creators, and creators are gonna create - or at least we’re compelled to. Inspiration can motivate us and elevate our work. It can give us purpose and direction. It’s the spark behind the fires of creativity, and it can help us create better things than we would without it.
Life without inspiration can feel directionless, like we’re lost or have no important purpose, and it can leave us feeling unmotivated. Inspiration is therefore very important in the scheme of things, and it ties in with the life purpose we might feel we have. Other times, we might just have seemingly random bursts of creativity, but they often form part of a larger picture. We might not realise it until later when all the pieces come together or are recognisable as stepping stones on a more pronounced path.
In a similar way, giving too much time or attention to something uninspiring can drag us down. The lesson is clear: spend your energy wisely. Listen to what inspires you the most. Even if you don’t have time to act on it, pay attention. Write it down, because it might just be your soul talking or the beginning of something with great potential at a later time and place.
Author Tip for the Week: It’s as simple and as hard as this: listen to what you really want and do something about it. However small, something is more than nothing and small pieces can add up to something more over time.
Free Publishing-Related Design Resources
I create design resources like digital papers, clipart, bookmarks, sublimation designs, mockup images and more. I aim to share a design freebie in my Substack newsletter here each week. I’m making this bookmarks set available for personal or commercial use. You must not sell or redistribute the original files as is, or without significant changes.
You can download this set from my Icedrive account here.
